NTT DoCoMo begins shipping Optimus Pad March 31

NTT DoCoMo announced on Monday it will begin shipping the Optimus Pad L-06C tablet in Japan beginning on Thursday, March 31. NTT will be the first to offer the tablet, as T-Mobile hasn't officially confirmed its own launch date. It was expected to arrive in the US as the G-Slate on March 23 but missed that date and is more likely to ship April 20.

The 8.9-inch Optimus Pad L-06C is similar to its world counterparts and uses Android 3.0 on a 1280x768 touchscreen. There are dual five-megapixel cameras that support stereoscopic 3D photos and videos, though the display is still 2D and needs red-blue 3D glasses to see its footage. HDMI 1.4 outputs 3D images to compatible TVs. At the heart is a dual-core 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 chip key to recording and playing 1080p 2D video and 720p 3D.

NTT DoCoMo warned that some locations will get the tablet later than March 31 as a result of the northern Japan earthquake.
