Roku adds free Crackle channel to offerings

Roku this week announced it has updated its Crackle channel to bring free, ad-supported movies and TV shows. Owners of Roku's streaming players can access the channel in the Roku Channel Store. The move gives a mix both of major, usually Hollywood-made titles as well as Crackle-specific titles like Angel of Death.

The channel has been quietly available for just over a week, and is a top-five installed and watched channel. Some of the movies users can access now or in the near future include The Da Vinci Code, 21, Gridiron Gang, Ultraviolet, Ghostbusters and more. About 20 movies will be added every month.

Exactly how the ad content is worked into the content isn't made clear.

The channel is available to US-based Roku owners only.
