HTC teases April 12 device launch in London
HTC has sent out a teaser for a special event on April 12. The notice said little other than asking the media to "join us to see what's next" on the backdrop of what appeared to be water rippling just after a drop. Engadget's copy otherwise only mentioned it taking place in London at 1:30PM local time, or 8:30AM Eastern.
The timing coincides with Microsoft's MIX11 event, but no leaks have emerged of new HTC Windows Phone 7 hardware, any of which would be less likely to show up in a separate, simultaneous event. It may instead be a formal unveiling of the Pyramid, an international adaptation of the Evo 3D. Apart from the switch to GSM, it would drop the glasses-free 3D from the 540x960 display and accordingly scrap one of the two rear cameras in favor of a single eight-megapixel sensor.
All versions of the Evo 3D and Pyramid share a dual-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon, a 4.3-inch screen size, and a front camera for video chats and self portraits. HTC will ship either with Android 2.3 and the custom Sense 3.0 layer on top.
Few other candidates are available and could include an eventual Android 3.0 tablet.
