Xperia Play hits Rogers pre-orders and FCC filing

Sony Ericsson's Xperia Play has edged closer to a release in the past day with two official appearances. Rogers has put up a pre-order page for both the Xperia Play and its more straightforward Xperia Arc sibling. Both of the Android 2.3 phones will cost $100 on a three-year contract.

In the US, the Verizon edition of the Xperia Play has cleared the FCC through a filing. Although tested on CDMA, the teardown shows that the design still has its original SIM card slot. Sony Ericsson hasn't given any indication that the Xperia Play is dual-mode or LTE, suggesting instead that it decided to make as few changes as possible.

A view of the inside of the gamepad area also shows the Synaptics hardware that controls the dual touchpads as well as the Qualcomm controller hardware on the inside.

Verizon hasn't said when it plans to ship the Xperia Play, but a smartphone roadmap for the spring puts it in stores on April 14. [FCC via Wireless Goodness]
