Anonymous threatens to attack Sony websites

A hacking group known simply as Anonymous has announced it will turn its attention to Sony for the legal action it's taken against hackers such as George Hotz for hacking the PS3 console. In an open letter to the electronics maker, Anonymous wrote "your recent legal action against our fellow hackers, Geohot and Graf_Chokolo has not only alarmed us, it has been deemed wholly unforgivable." According to CNET, Anonymous has accused Sony of abusing the judicial system in order to censor information on how its products work.

It further alleged that Sony has violated the privacy of thousands, as it victimizes its own customers for possessing and sharing information, going so far as to get information on YouTube viewers' accounts and IP addresses of those visiting Hotz's site. Anonymous may attack Sony's sites in an operation called OpSony in a similar fashion as it did in last year's WikiLeaks scandal, where it attacked the web sites of financial institutions and other organizations.

Anonymous threatened to take "disciplinary actions" against Sony's private domains, suggesting they're already underway.

"Now Anonymous is attacking your private property because we disagree with your actions. And that seems, dare we say it, 'wrong.' Sound familiar?" the letter reads.

The group called itself a collection of average Internet citizens who are fed up with the injustices they see every day.

Sony hasn't commented on the matter, and its websites appear to be running properly.
