Startup specializes in hierarchical memory tech
Former Palm executive Joe Hayashi has reportedly resigned from HP to pursue other interests, marking the latest Palm veteran to depart following the company's acquisition. Hayashi is considered to be one of the pioneers behind the webOS platform, having served as Vice President of Product Management for webOS during his time at Palm.
Former Palm CEO Donna Dubinsky recently issued a tweet announcing that Hayashi joined her new venture, a startup named Numenta. The company's ranks appear to be filled with other former Palm leadership, including Palm co-founder Jeff Hawkins and former CEO Ed Colligan.
Numenta is working to develop hierarchical temporal memory (HTM) technology that is said to mimic the neocortex of the human brain. The startup suggests HTM processing is geared for complex tasks such as object recognition, predictions, speech understanding, and pattern recognition.
"We believe the principles by which HTM technology operates will form the basis of machine intelligence," the company's website states. [via PreCentral]
