Windows 8 to have Modern Reader for viewing PDFs

The latest in a series of reports from WithinWindows about the features in the upcoming Windows 8 OS reveals that a native PDF reader will be included. At the same time, this Modern Reader app will be the first to be packaged using the AppX type. The PDF reader allows zooming in and out of documents, as well as navigating them using the page scrubber.

AppX is a new type of packaged application model in Windows 8. It is said to be similar to the Windows Phone 7 application packages, suggesting it could also find its way to Windows Phone 8. It's codenamed Apollo in the Windows Phone 8 case and allows developers to write apps that can be easily ported between PCs, tablets and smartphones.

This could also be similar to the Silverlight-based app framework known as Jupiter.
