Vulkano Flow drops price of entry to $99

Monsoon Multimedia has just dropped the price of entry for its Vulkano streaming hardware with its newly shipping $99 Vulkano Flow product. It connects to a set-top box and streams any TV channel to mobile devices, tablets and computers. The Flow is currently compatible with iOS, Android and BlackBerry handhelds as well as Macs and Windows PCs, and will soon get Symbian and Windows Phone 7 support.

Once set up, users can access the electronic programming guide to watch and control their TV set-top box over Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or a 3G connection. The iOS devices and home computers get pause, rewind and fast-forward functions. Channels can be marked as favorites for quick access and users can stream cable, DVD, satellite, DVR and TiVo sources. Video is streamed in H.264 format with data rates as low as 150kbps for 3G and fringe connections.

Video output comes from either component or RCA ports.

The Vulkano Flow is available online at Amazon and other stores. It will automatically stream to Macs and PCs, but iPad, iPhone, Android, BlackBerry users will need to pay for a respective app at $13 each.
