Retailer distributes training materials
The iPad 2 should become available through Toys R Us next month, according to a worker with the company. The retailer is currently said to be distributing training materials -- seen in supplied photos -- covering topics like specifications and accessories. The existence of a training program would back an impending launch, since such programs typically only arrive within weeks before a product launch.
Since late 2010 Apple has attempted to radically expand the US retail reach of the iPad. Beyond Apple and associated carrier stores, the iPad 2 is currently available through chains like Best Buy, Walmart, Sam's Club, Target and Radio Shack. Toys R Us would be an unusual addition, but the iPad is a popular device with children and teenagers and Apple has made a special point of marketing the tablet's gaming abilities. Its presence in toy stores could put extra pressure on parents to consider buying one.

The article calls the placement "unusual," but ease of use comparisons aside, i.e., that little kids take to iPads faster than a Fisher-Price learning toy, it's not without precedent. My first encounter with a Texas Instruments T!-99/4 was in a Toys R Us store, right next to an Atari gaming machine.
