Nokia E6, X7 show early in official promo videos

Nokia E6 and X7 slip early through highlight clips

Nokia's plans for an April 12 Symbian revival grew clearer on Sunday after British carrier 3 and Nokia itself posted briefly available videos (one of which is republished below) of the E6 and X7. The second device, spotted earlier by Nokia Blog, promises not just the known four-inch ClearBlack display and eight-megapixel camera but a newly revamped version of Symbian. The browser should be three times faster than it is in Symbian^3 devices like the N8, a 3 UK spokesman said in one clip, and it should also finally have a portrait ratio on-screen keyboard instead of requiring a switch into landscape mode.

Few details were caught regarding the E6, but it was already known to be replacing the aging E70 series and will be the first modern Symbian device with a 4:3 ratio screen and a fixed QWERTY keyboard. The decision unintentionally makes it the highest-resolution Symbian device ever with a 640x480 screen, and it should keep up with 720p video recording and other contemporary features.

Both could show shortly after Nokia's event on Tuesday, though they likely won't be shipping immediately. Its timing is unusual as it will clash with the opening to its new smartphone partner Microsoft's own MIX11 event, where the late 2011 Windows Phone update, Mango, should make a more formal appearance.

The X7 is unlikely to ever show in the US after having been dropped by AT&T due to worries about interest in the face of the iPhone and recent Android phones. [via Engadget]

Next Tuesday is shaping up to a big day for smartphones; Microsoft's MIX conference will likely involve plenty of smartphone content, HTC is planning a press event in London, and now Nokia's started sending out invitations to a London event of its own.

The invitations show that Nokia intends the gathering to focus on Symbian smartphones, but other than that, the door's wide open. There are plenty of models that have popped up on our radar that would be likely candidates for Nokia to show off; last week the T7 made a series of appearances in Nokia's systems, with a 640 x 360 display and 3.2-megapixel camera. Then this week n possible
    >T7 candidate was given the look-over in China, now claiming an 8-megapixel shooter and a 700MHz ARM11 CPU. The London event would be a prime opportunity to set the record straight on the T7.
