HTC Flyer hits UK preorder at high price
British mobile retailer Carphone Warehouse on Monday started pre-orders for the HTC Flyer. Its version of the Android 2.3 tablet carries unlocked 3G and 32GB of built-in storage, but also carries a steep price. The seven-inch slate is listed as costing £600 with tax included, or the equivalent of $982.
The Flyer is incorrectly listed as in stock but is only shipping in May.
Its pricing might hurt chances against the iPad and other Android tablets, but it's not clear this will hold in the US. Sprint's Evo View 4G may cost less even contract-free and will likely have a carrier-discounted contract option. At the least, a Wi-Fi only Flyer will reach Best Buy and should cost significantly less.
The Flyer is a rare single-core tablet in the field and is focusing mostly on its unique combination of finger touch with pen support for notes. A back five-megapixel camera and a front low-resolution camera give it support for video chats. [via SlashGear]
