AMD to officially support USB 3.0 in chipsets

Intel still waits to jump on board
AMD has confirmed plans to offer several of its chipsets with USB 3.0 integration. The move is expected to provide momentum to USB 3.0 adoption among PC makers, as chipset integration eliminates the need for separate components to handle the newer standard. Market leader Intel, however, has yet to add the same capabilities to its chipsets.
Despite Intel's slower approach, many of the latest notebook computers currently provide USB 3.0 connections. The standard supports data transfer speeds up to ten times faster than USB 2.0, while also pushing more power to attached devices.
AMD is bringing USB 3.0 support to its A75 and A70M Fusion chipsets, which began shipping this week, a company representative told CNET.
