New Symbian OS features of 50 enhancements

Nokia has officially launched the Nokia X7 and E6 Symbian smartphones. The new devices, which surfaced a couple of days ahead of the official launch, also feature Nokia's new version of its Symbian OS dubbed 'Anna'. The Symbian 'Anna' OS is said to include over 50 enhancements, among them a new browser that is 3 times faster and which supports Flash 10.

The Nokia X7 is an entertainment-focused smartphone with a 4-inch ClearBlack display, and an 8-megapixel camera for capturing pictures and HD-quality video. The X7 is made from a combination of seamless stainless steel and glass combined in a way that mixes curves and angles with solid build quality. It comes preloaded with the Galaxy on Fire HD and Asphalt 5 HD games. Memory is expandable up to 32GB.

The Nokia E6 is a slim business smartphone with a full QWERTY keypad and high resolution 2.46-inch 640x480 touch display. Its pixel density is a match for Apple's vaunted Retina display at 326ppi, although the iPhone display is larger at 3.5-inches. Designed combining glass and stainless steel, it offers business users Microsoft messaging capabilities out of the box including access to Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft Communicator Mobile and Microsoft SharePoint. Its 1500mAh battery is said to be good for 9 hours of continuous playback or talk time up 15 hours.

Three UK has announced that it will carry the X7, although it is unclear whether the devices will make it to North America where Symbian has gained little traction. Rather than persisting with Symbian smartphones in the US, Nokia may wait until early 2012 when it is expected to launch its first Windows Phone 7 powered smartphone.
