Apple reiterates spring timeframe for white iPhone

updated 04:10 pm EDT, Thu April 14, 2011

Possible shipping window narrowing fast

The white iPhone 4 is still on track to ship this spring, according to Apple. The timeframe is the same one the company has clung to since October. Apple is also refusing to say which carrier (or carriers) will be the first to get white models, despite a Bloomberg report claiming that both AT&T and Verizon will get the hardware. That same report also stated that white phones should be ready by the end of April.

Apple has repeatedly delayed the introduction of white iPhone 4s, citing manufacturing problems. While demand for white models may no longer be high, the issue has become an embarrassment that Apple may be eager to shake. It could help to explain the existence of both white and black iPad 2s, which were unexpected until two days before their announcement. Prior to that point, though, rumors were circulating that Apple had finally solved issues with white coating.

A spring schedule gives Apple relatively little time to ship white iPhone 4s. By some definitions American summer begins in early May, and at the latest it arrives June 21st. Apple could announce an iPhone 5 as soon as June 6th, although many reports have put the device's introduction in the fall.

    Who Cares?

I waited and waited for the white iPhone, believing Steve and his availability dates, one after another. I needed to replace my original iPhone and finally did on 12/31 with a black one. Like Apple's original support of Blu ray, Apple sees no need to keep it's word. For any corporation with the cash held by Apple, nothing should be "problematic."

Seriously, what's the big deal? A different color of plastic on a phone that's about to be replaced by a new model? WOW where do I sign up?
