TiVo survey mentions 4-tuner DVR, companion box

TiVo Advisors panel has issued a new survey to members that hints at what the DVR maker is considering releasing. In terms of hardware, the survey makes mention of a four-tuner HD DVR that would have the ability to record up to four shows at once while a fifth is viewed. There is also a hint of a companion set-top that would connect to a TiVo DVR from another room and allow for watching live HD programming or recordings on the DVR.

On the software side, users may soon have the ability to view all of the TV shows and movies recorded on any DVR from any DVR in a house with multiple DVRs. Those who get HD channels and standard-def versions of the same would no longer get the listing of the latter on the program guide. TiVo is also asking users how much they'd like to get organization and search options, such as sorting recorded content by season and episode number. Finding channels by name is also being considered, as is a way to find programs not available through paid subscriptions or services such as Netflix.

When or even if these features come to future TiVo products remains to be seen. Current Series 4 DVRs like the Premiere have dual tuners. [via ZatzNotFunny]
