Toys R Us confirms iPad 2 on sale, coming April 17

Toys R Us makes iPad 2 plans official

Toys R Us has quietly confirmed its plans to carry the iPad 2. The company now has a shopping page telling buyers which stores should carry the tablet. No online store entry exists, though one wasn't expected since no third-party resellers can currently offer it for sale online.

The company hasn't been given timing, but a companion leak coming from 9to5 has stores carrying stock as of Sunday, April 17. Its plans will deliberately confine the sales to the 16GB and 32GB Wi-Fi models and will only offer white for the 16GB version. Smart Covers will also be in store, but all but the Times Square flagship store will be limited to the polyurethane models.

Its launch coincides with the launch of Best Buy's promotion and will see a rare instance of a significant push from third-party retailers on the same day. Apple may not have had any deliberate hand in coordinating more than the Toys R Us deal and already has a footprint in several major US retail chains, including Best Buy, Radio Shack, Sam's Club, Target, and Walmart.

    great news

this is particularly good news for me because I do all my shopping at Toys-R-Us and previously had no way to buy an iPad 2.

Always new it was a toy

Running out of chain stores. No Blockbuster. Whats next chain porno stores? It is after all. All about the dollar, and not quality of service or product knowledge by the staff.

Get rid of Facebook connect please.

I am tired of the idiotic comments from facebook users on the front page stories.

    WHY Spread so thin?

So Apple's new strategy is make their product available at every store, but none of the stores can get enough product to actually satisfy demand? So people looking for iPads need to drive to every store in town to see who has them instead of just a select few outlets that could take care of their customers. Yeah, that makes sense.

    This should help Apple

This bonehead move should definitely help Apple win over the Enterprise market - NOT!

Now little Jimmy can have the same neat toys his douchebag CEO daddy uses for, um, work?

    Re: I usually call

Gas is expensive, so I've found that calling the stores to check stock before driving to them tends to work better.

Time is expensive. So I just go on-line, order something, and have someone deliver it to me, rather than have to go out, deal with the idiots on the roads, crowds in the malls/stores, etc, to get it.

Plus it's usually cheaper or, at worst, the same price. Then I know it'll come someday and not worry about it until then.
