T-Mobile Bobsled allows Facebook, mobile VoIP

T-Mobile chose Tuesday to kick off the launch of a unique VoIP calling service. Bobsled lets Facebook owners call each other over VoIP by using Facebook contact information alone instead of separate IDs. The web version of the app can leave voicemail either as a message or on a user's wall; the recipient doesn't need the app loaded in Facebook to answer.

A mobile side also exists. T-Mobile users with a Sidekick 4G, and future devices, can use the Cloud Text or Group Text apps to both talk to Facebook as well as coordinate text messaging across multiple users.

The service is so far available immediately on Facebook and will be on the Sidekick 4G. Video chat and calls to real-world numbers are both coming. T-Mobile has also promised support for the iPhone, other Android phones, and various tablets.
