Vietnam iPhone video claims to show iOS 5

Vietnamese site Tinhte has posted details and videos (below) of what's rumored to be the first visible example of iOS 5. The OS on show for what's allegedly a future iPhone shows a reworked multitasking system. Similar to Expose but also slightly to webOS, a double-tap of the home button would bring up thumbnails showing every running app and let users quit them with the same press-and-hold command; search would now be built into the same screen and work the same way.

Facebook also appears to be integrated into the OS itself, since it shows in the settings along with core apps. Briefly, it also appears the default folder view has changed from the default "crack" that shows the whole OS to a pop-up window.

The iPhone in question is a 64GB model but has the "XXGB" label on the back that shows it to be an Apple engineering prototype. Most details are unknown, but the iPhone 5 is poised to use the A5. The OS appeared to run smoothly in the task switcher, but performance relative to the A4 in the iPhone 4 was difficult to gauge.

Authenticity for either the hardware or software claims are difficult to gauge. However, the loaded apps give credence to it being a legitimate build. The device is loaded with E911Tester, MALogger, and other apps that clearly point to diagnostics rather than a jailbreak. Some of the apps, such as Radar, are also known to be strictly internal Apple testing tools that a developer couldn't get. One of the games, Touch Fighter II, appears to be a sequel to a demo app Apple has used at iOS keynotes to illustrate code features.

If reflective of Apple's plans, the iPhone itself would point to a conservative upgrade. The extent of iOS 5's reworking is still a mystery; even if a real pre-release version, the software could change significantly by the release date and may have features that couldn't be shown without launching apps.

    Um

Or its just a clone running Android. Or its just a fake.

For one has to wonder, what with Apple being so secretive, why they'd let something like iOS 5.0 out the door and all the way to Vietnam.

Watch the whole video. It's FAKE. It shows in system preferences About screen that there are 0 songs, yet when he uses spotlight tons of songs in the iPod app display.

    Look closer at About

It identifies the system version as 4.0 build 8A216, which would be the 216th build of 4.0. The original release of iOS 4.0 was build 8A293, which is almost 80 builds after what is shown here.

The current iOS 4.3.2 is build 8H7.

This may indeed be an engineering prototype, but it is much more likely that it is an iPhone 4 prototype, rather than iPhone 5.

    iOS 4.3 already does this

    No, it doesn't

Currently iOS 4.x shows the _icon_ for the running applications, and allows the user to press-and-hold, then dismiss. The article is talking about a _thumbnail_ view of the actual running application screens instead - and in a larger, overlaid grid, rather than simply displayed at the bottom of the screen.
