ABI says iPad had 85pc share in 2010
A new look-back study from ABI Research on Wednesday gave Apple the lion's share of the tablet market for all of 2010. The iPad represented 85 percent of all tablets in the category and was well ahead of other rivals. Samsung's Galaxy Tab represented just eight percent where Archos managed just two percent; all others were just three percent combined.
The analyst group's senior practice director Jeff Orr disagreed with the belief that the total market was large enough to disrupt computer sales or those of more specialized home electronics. That expectation "simply didn't become a reality," he said.
In the future, ABI called for 40 million to 50 million tablets shipping in 2011 and over 110 million in 2014. The study expected a flattening share from then onwards once the market saturated. Apple wasn't poised to hold its dominant share, but competitors would primarily focus on undercutting Apple on price

as expected
The Galaxy Tab #1, back in 2010, they were trying to force everyone to add a second cell contract - the wi-fi version hadn't been released.
#2 - even though the wi-fi version was released last week (yes, finally!) it DOES NOT USE A TABLET OS.
Sorry for screaming, but Google said don't buy these tablets until we have our tablet OS out - which is Android 3.0. The Galaxy Tab still uses the phone OS - and not Android 3.0.
Samsung may eventually release a product that is competitive, they are "hinting" at it.
Frankly 8% was good for the pathetic state of affairs. But - this should change shortly.
In the next month or two, there are thousands of Android "Tablet" apps coming online in Android Market place - and several Android 3.0 tablets coming out that don't require the hated 2nd cell contract.
Acer, Sony, B&N, and maybe even Amazon, should shake things up.
