Windows Phone 7 security update coming over USB
A coming software upgrade for Windows Phone 7 devices will be loaded onto the handsets only over a direct USB link, Microsoft Trustworthy Computing head Bruce Cowper representative told WinRumors. Cowper also added that WP7 phone owners will get a notification of the update's launch over-the-air via a message, but will need to plug in either using the Windows-based Zune software or Windows Phone 7 Connector for Mac. No official date was given for the update.
The release is expected and rumored to come on May 3. The security update will address nine fake SSL certificates spotted in late March. These certificates can be used to spoof content, phish for crucial information or perform other attacks against all browsers, including Internet Explorer. Since then, Windows operating systems were updated, but not the mobile equivalent.
