Tablet carries $550 price tag in N. America

Acer has begun shipping the Iconia W500, a tablet equipped to run Windows 7 Home Premium or Windows 7 Professional. The device appears to be an adaptation of the Android 3.0-based A500, but with an AMD dual-core Fusion processor and Radeon integrated graphics. Both tablets integrate 10.1-inch displays with LED backlighting and 1280x800 resolution.

Aside from the netbook-level chipset, the Windows variant also steps up to a 32GB SSD and 2GB of DDR3 RAM. The tablet offers dual cameras, Acer's customized tablet UI, and a docking station that provides a keyboard and various ports.

The W500 starts at $550 with Windows 7 Home Premium, which commands a $100 premium over the Android offering. [via ZDNet]
