First-gen 10.1 model sports $860 price tag

In a move that was hinted last week, Vodafone Portugal will begin selling the original design of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. According to the Vodaphone website, the tablet will be available starting April 26 for the equivalent of $860. Samsung was forced to rethink its strategy after the introduction of the iPad 2, and halted production of the original Galaxy Tab 10.1.

The company accelerated production of a redesigned Galaxy slate, said to be slightly slimmer than the iPad 2. Samsung also revised its pricing strategy, abandoning plans to charge a premium for the larger slate.

The Wi-Fi only version of the slimmed Galaxy Tab 10.1 is expected for delivery in the US in early June, with a starting price of $499 for the 16GB edition. [via Engadget]
