Origin overclocks Eon17-S notebook to 4.5GHz

Origin PC on Monday began shipping its EON17-S gaming notebook with a CPU overclocked to 4.5GHz in Turbo Boost mode. The notebook was introduced in mid-February but now has overclocking that Origin said doesn't come at the cost of stability or durability. The 17.3-inch notebook offers a 1080p a display and Intel's second-generation Core i5 or Core i7 processors, but only the Extreme Edition Core i7-2920XM gets the ultimate overclock option, which hits about 4GHz without the Turbo Boost.

The notebook also gets NVIDIA's 1.5GB GeForce GTX 460M or the more capable 2GB GTX 485M. There are four slots for RAM, which can accommodate as much as 32GB. A dual-layer Blu-ray burner is optional, and storage drive options include a 750GB hard drive, a 500GB hybrid or a 512GB SSD. Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi, a TV tuner, and USB 3.0 ports are all standard. An HDMI and optical audio output along with support for up to 7.1-channel HD Audio and THX TruStudio make it a candidate for a home theater setup. It stays in the desktop replacement class at 8.6lbs.

Prices start at $1,759, with the 4/4.5GHz chip adding $1,144 to the bottom line for a minimum sticker of $2,903.
