Will demo seven-inch touchscreen in May

Toshiba Mobile Display (TMD) has announced a LTPS/TFT LCD touch panel screen for vehicles. The seven-inch screen features capacitive multi-touch input functionality integrated into a liquid crystal cell.

At the core of the display is a low-temperature polysilicon (LTPS) LCD that promises a better picture than conventional displays while also being easier to work into a car's center stack. The benefit is reduced weight and thickness. The screen is about 57 percent thinner and 48 percent lighter than a conventional LCD with touch panel overlay. The surface reflection ratio is reduced by 10 percent. This provides clearer images even in a naturally bright environment.

The smaller footprint could lead to more compact products for mobile applications. It is also more environmentally friendly by by saving resources and reducing power consumption.

TMD will exhibiting the technology at the upcoming SID 2011 International Symposium, Seminar and Exhibition in mid-May.
