New PS3 model passes FCC testing

An unexpected revision of the Sony PS3 Slim has reached the FCC for testing. All indications at this stage are that the new console is a new generation of the PS3 as its model number CECH-3001A and CECH-3001B have not previously been used in the US or abroad. The original PlayStation 3 and then PS3 Slim were both part of the CECH-2xxxx series, with the current PS3 carrying the CECH-2500A and CECH-2500B model numbers.

While the A and B coding indicates that the new models will come in two different capacities, it is not known whether the models will include a bump in hard disk size. The current models ship in 160GB and 320GB configurations. The only other details revealed thus far in the FCC filings indicate that the devices will ship with Bluetooth 2.0+EDR and will continue with 802.11 b/g WiFi connectivity. [via Wireless Goodness]
