Pioneer HDJ-500T adds smartphone remote

Pioneer on Wednesday upgraded its entry DJ headphones to adapt to those with iPhones and other smartphones. The HDJ-500T has both the original, extra-long coiled cord intended for DJs and living room listening but also a shorter, straight cord with an in-line mic and remote for phone calls. Its design is intentionally kept simple and has just a single button, but no visible volume.

The earpieces remain the same and cater to DJs by offering a 60-degree rotation on the right cup to let DJs hear both the mix and the actual output. Its 40mm drivers are tuned to the low- and mid-range frequencies of electronic, hip-hop, and rap music and have a relatively low frequency floor of 5Hz while still scaling up to 28KHz. Signal-to-noise is relatively clean at 105dB.

Along with the two detachable cords, Pioneer bundles in a quarter-inch plug adapter. The HDJ-500T is only available in black but should arrive in May for $145.
