HTC Inspire 4G gets ATT update for HSUPA 3G

AT&T fulfilled its promises of an HSUPA update in April at the last minute on Friday with its first of two updates. The HTC Inspire 4G is getting an update that adds the faster 3G upload speeds for owners on those parts of the network that support them. The Atrix 4G update was being delayed, but it had passed testing and would go live "soon," the carrier said.

The Inspire 4G update also had a handful of other, unspecified features.

Inspire 4G users may have the option of updating early through a manual check. All users should get the update pushed automatically over the next few weeks at least as long as they sit on Wi-Fi.

Controversy erupted over AT&T's claimed data speeds after users getting its first '4G' phones found that upload speeds were much lower than the badging would imply. Investigations found that the company hadn't cleared them for the speeds and that only the iPhone 4, as well as USB modems. AT&T had tried to argue that speeds weren't capped, but the firmware had it artificially disabled where the international versions of the phones could run at full speed.
