Phil Schiller denies white iPhone 4 thicker than black

Schiller claims white iPhone 4 is same size

Observations that the white iPhone 4 was thicker than the black model were given an unusual challenge on Sunday by Apple's VP of worldwide product marketing Phil Schiller. In a direct message to Ernesto Barron, he insisted that the white model was the same size despite hands-on tests. "Don't believe all the junk you read," Schiller said.

It's unknown why Schiller would send a direct message. He has lately been active on Twitter but usually makes comments in public through mentions for questions on this scope.

Owners of the white iPhone have made side-by-side comparisons that clearly show a thicker design that has proven problematic for cases with very little tolerance, such as some silicone cases. Without an official answer for the difference, the reason for the difference hasn't been known. Speculation has raised the possibility that it needs a thicker layer to protect against UV damage or to look as good as illustrated in photos. [via 9to5]

    Somebody is measuring it wrong.

If an Apple executive says something about an Apple product is bull, then it must be bull. Those old black iPhone cases must have shrunk after getting wet.

    Dem's Fightin' Words!!

Apple needs to be very careful here. If the white iPhone is indeed thicker than the black with no acknowledgement from them as this being the case (pardon the pun), someone's gonna bring it to them with a lawsuit. If it is a bit thicker, it doesn't seem like a big thing to acknowledge it. It's already clear that concessions had to be made to get this thing released, and I just wonder if it was worth the effort. Being that they are selling a boatload of them overseas at least, I guess, makes it worth it.

Well Phil, all I can say is my Black 4's Slider Case would not fit on the white iPhone today?

Sure this is the right Phil?

This seems very un apple like. Not that they would make it slightly larger but to come out right away and through unofficial channels deny it. Based on the photos it would seem indeed the white iPhone is bigger and can't imagine why they would deny it. Not like it is a huge difference where Apple would be responsible for 3rd party cases fitting.

0.2mm? Is it really that noticeable?

I know 1 millimetre would be quite noticeable in terms of thickness. However, 0.2mm seems like it would almost fall within manufacturing variation. I'd like to see that thickness measured over a larger sample size of iPhones.

move the decimal to the right, please.

    0.2cm or 2mm, not 0.2mm.

Now...will someone move the decimal to the right in my bank balance.

One official statement from Apple and intermediately iBoys regard it an absolute truth, no matter what actual measurements indicate!

Apple might as well make the next iPone a couple inches thick, as long as the official statements indicate is slimmer, people like iphonerulez will rush to buy one an "confirm it Is indeed thinner"...

A little latter another iBoy (Zanziboy?) will state: "an inch - Is it really that noticeable?"
