Target cancels Eee Pad Transformer pre-orders

The Eee Pad Transformer from ASUS will not ship to those who ordered it at Target, Phandroid reported. The retail chain e-mailed those who ordered the device early, informing them the 16GB Wi-Fi device isn't available from any of its sources. The sudden cancellations have been seen as more evidence that ASUS has had to rapidly curb supply.

The unavailability is reportedly due to a parts shortage that limits output to just 10,000 devices per month, with many believing Apple's iPad 2 is to blame for drying up parts supplies. Production might not get to full speed until mid-June, two months after the promised release.

Quick sellouts were first thought to be the result of sheer demand for a $400, high-quality tablet, but retailers have since confirmed that they either received too few units or none at all.
