Camera touted as world's smallest

Israeli medical device company Medigus has created what it claims to be the world's smallest video camera, with a diameter of just 0.99mm. The technology is geared for medical applications that require a small-diameter endoscopic device, potentially enabling new procedures that prove impossible with the larger cameras currently in use.

The tiny camera utilizes a 0.66x0.66mm CMOS sensor that captures video with 45,000 pixel resolution, while the use of TSV (through-silicon via) fabrication is said to bring manufacturing costs down to levels acceptable for disposable devices.

Medigus is planning to release samples to US and Japanese companies sometime in the coming weeks, though pricing information has yet to be publicly disclosed.
