Fossil and TI detail Meta Watch development platform

Texas Instruments and Fossil have disclosed fresh details surrounding the Meta Watch, a "wearable development system" that is designed to connect with smartphones and other devices. The watches, which were first previewed in March at an HP event, will be available in two flavors, including an analog option with a tonneau case and an all-digital variant with a rectangular shape.
Each of the devices integrates white-on-black OLED displays for information presentation, while TI's MSP430 ultra-low-power processor drives the operating system. Other components include an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, and a vibrating motor.
The companies will bring the watches to the Google I/O event to attract developers to create applications for the platform. Several of the potential ideas focus on the watch as a secondary display to view information such as e-mails, text messages, or social networking updates.
The Meta Watch is expected to sell for $200 and arrive on the market in July. [via GigaOM]
