MS employee charged with $9,900 in software theft
A Microsoft store worker has been charged with first-degree theft by his former employer, Seattle PI reported earlier this week. Ulugbek Shodmonov allegedly stole thousands of dollars worth of software before reselling it. The police documents related to the case maintain that the 31-year-old spent nearly all of his annual allowance at Microsoft's Redmond store by August. Employees receive deep discounts at the store.
The report of the thefts reached Redmond Police in December. Investigators tracked Shodmonov's eBay account and found he sold 17 copies of Microsoft apps and 18 Xbox 360 games. He only bought one copy of Windows 7 Professional from the store he worked at, but surveillance video showed him carrying out software more than 22 times.
On six visits in October, Shodmonov was seen walking out of a locked software stock room accessible with his company key card, then proceeding to a changing room where he had a notebook bag waiting. He then left without making purchases.
Police reports show a total of $9,900 worth of software was stolen during the six days in October, though it's not known if Shodmonov is responsible for all of it.
Shodmonov was charged on April 26.
