AT&T may face tough interrogation on Capitol Hill

Next Wednesday, CEOs from AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint are scheduled to testify before a Senate Judiciary committee looking into AT&T's proposed $39 billion acquisition of T- Mobile. According to a witness list released on Thursday, the Subcommittee on Antitrust, Competition Policy and Consumer Rights has asked AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson, T-Mobile USA CEO Philipp Humm, and Sprint CEO Dan Hesse to testify. The official name of the hearing caught by AllThingsD is reportedly "Is Humpty Dumpty Being Put Back Together Again," in a reference to the merger possibly reversing the 1980s breakup of AT&T.

Also scheduled to appear will be Cellular South CEO Victor Meena, Public Knowledge President Gigi Sohn, and head of the Communication Workers of America, Larry Cohen.

Sprint recently escalated its opposition to the proposed merger by asking the state of West Virginia to look into the deal. Sprint is expected to try to involve other states as well.
