Microsoft invites media to Windows Phone event

Event invitations are being sent out by Microsoft that have confirmed a Windows Phone 7 event is scheduled for later this month. It will take place on May 24 rather than May 25, as previously believed, however. The focus will be on the "next major release" of Windows Phone, widely known as Mango.

Two events will be held, one in New York and another in London. It is expected the software giant will reveal lots of details on the software, which might be called Windows Phone 7.5. Multitasking, the IE9 web rendering engine, and better developer support for cameras and microphones are all part of the publicly known feature set.

New features expected to be shown include ones outlined earlier today, such as Bing AV, podcasts and turn-by-turn navigation.
