Streaming mobile video company part of deal

GeekWire has confirmed that Qik, the streaming mobile video company that Skype acquired in January in January for $121 million will be included in Microsoft's $8.5 billion deal to buy Skype. The company was likely to come with the agreement but wasn't discussed with initial plans. Microsoft didn't give out what its ultimate plans for Qik, if any, might be.

Qik provides mobile video software and services that let people capture, share and preserve moments on video using a cell phone or mobile device. Qik is available on phones and tablets running Android, iOS, Symbian, and BlackBerry. It currently doesn't offer an application for Windows Phone 7, but that is expected to change in the future.

Qik has just 60 employees, and is headquartered in Redwood City, California.
