Shaw Cable brings back Moxi DVR as Arris Gateway

Moxi DVRs are now available yet again, but have unusually been confined to Canada. Shaw Cable is offering the device, now known as the Shaw Gateway, while the Moxi Mate is now called the Portal. The device has six tuners and a built-in 500GB hard drive.

Since Arris purchased Moxi, there is no longer any mention of Moxi branding. In the US, the Moxi PVR wasn't successful either in retail or with cable provider Charter, which led to its demise. The Gateway DVR gets CableCARD support. There is Wi-Fi and DLNA support so users can view media on their home networks as well.

The Shaw Gateway ships with one Total Home Portal and costs $598 CAD. The Gateway allows viewing recorded content from the main unit on a second TV in another room, for example. Adding Portals can be done at $178 CAD each. [via Zatz Not Funny]
