Sony says site shutdown due to maintenance
Sony has righted a Wednesday report that its US PlayStation website went down due to another hacker attack. According to Reuters, the company said the site outage was due to the installation of a new security measure. This caused the US PlayStation site inaccessible from select regions outside of the US.
"Media reports claiming that the US PlayStation.com site and blog were partially disrupted because of hackers are false," said Sony spokesperson Dan Race. "We installed a new security measure that has temporarily made the sites inaccessible to select regions outside of the US."
The PlayStation website in Japan is still down, and Sony is working on getting back online as soon as possible, Race said.
The site is separate from the PlayStation Network, which was attacked by hackers and has been offline since April 19.
