Twitter preps new mobile web app with iPhone-like interface

updated 06:30 pm EDT, Wed May 11, 2011

Twitter mobile web optimized for phones, tablets

Twitter in an evening post undertook its first major remake of its mobile website in over a year. The new version takes direct cues from the iOS and Android mobile apps with the same basic navigation bar and touch-friendly buttons. The page can scale up to tablet size and uses HTML5 to achieve many of the effects that needed an app in the past.

The app is built for those either comfortable with the web or who don't have a native Twitter app, such as the BlackBerry PlayBook.

At first, the app is being rolled out in a test for a small number of Android phone, iPhone, and iPod touch users. More will get it in the next several weeks, Twitter said. Other platforms weren't mentioned but can still use the old site.
