Navigon launches Android 3.0-optimized app

Navigon has updated its navigation app for Android devices, making it now compatible with Android 3.0 tablets. The title now takes advantage of the larger screen and is one of the first to offer real turn-by-turn directions with the new OS. The MobileNavigator app (not yet in Android Market) has new features that include live weather information and a new function that can help in finding parking spaces. The 3.6 version of the app is also available in a North American version that gets map data for the US and Canada.

The app has map data from NAVTEQ and includes Navigon's Traffic Live and Lane Assistant features. The new parking feature will display a P icon on the screen when a destination is nearby. Tapping the icon will show a list of available parking options.

Weather Live shows real-time weather updates, with the option to see a three-day forecast. A route-planning feature lets users save up to 50 destinations for pulling up later.

The updated MobileNavigator USA app lasts at its current $40 price until May 26, when it goes up to $60. The North America version that adds Canadian maps is $60 until May 26 before going up to $80.
