AV by AIM now official, revamped as Web 2.0

The new AIM video chatting service, AV by AIM, recently leaked is now official. The service and interface has been given a much more contemporary look and Web 2.0 functionality. It also has a unique way of operating by launching within a user’s browser, and not requiring a user to sign in. It also does not even require friends to be on the same service and is interoperable with Google and Facebook.

To use the service users only need an internet connection and a camera. Users can invite others (up to three, for four in total) into video chat conversation by sharing a short URL for sharing through social networking services.

The service currently works with Flash only, and cannot work with Apple mobile devices. However, the developers are investigating other video technologies that will work efficiently on all mobile platforms. [via Gizmodo]
