Final release expected in June

Google has finally begun formal beta testing for Chrome OS 12, the same version that will soon arrive as a final release. The update, which was shown as a developer release at the company's I/O event, includes all of the features available in the Chrome 12 browser, along with a list of enhancements specific to the OS functionality.

Users will be able to take advantage of a file browser, revamped UI, improved GSM support, and a new Flash player. The company has also worked to resolve several issues related to Verizon activation, 3G connections, Wi-Fi connectivity, trackpad sensitivity and power optimization, among other fixes.

Chrome OS 12 is said to be the build that will arrive pre-installed on the first Chromebooks, which are expected to ship next month. [via TechCrunch]
