Samsung and RealD make new deal for 3D LCD TVs

Full resolution 3D panels will roll out in 2012

RealD and Samsung have announced a new agreement for jointly developing 3D display technology that delivers full resolution 3D images to each eye by adopting active shutter technology on the display. This creates a brighter, flicker-free across a wider viewing angle. Previously, the HD image was shared by both eyes, cutting the effective resolution in half.

The companies claim that using the same special effects glasses as found in movie theaters, users will recreate the same 3D imagery as experienced in cinemas today.

Samsung and RealD have been jointly working together on 3D technology since early 2010.

Full resolution 3D should first appear in active technology 23-inch and 27-inch monitors in early 2012. It will show up in 55-inch TVs subsequently. Pricing and availability in other sized monitors and TVs was not announced.
