Acer delays Iconia Tab A100 in hit to Android tablets

Acer Iconia Tab A100 pushed back to 2nd half fall

Acer UK this morning warned that its second Android 3.0 tablet, the Iconia Tab A100, was being delayed. The seven-inch Android slate was to have gone on sale this weekend but now won't arrive until sometime in the second half of 2011. No reason was given for the delay.

The company has been fighting to get ground in tablets as its PC business dropped in light of the iPad and other tablets cutting into sales of netbooks and low-end notebooks. Acer has put out the Iconia Tab A500 and managed to undercut Apple on price, but the company so far has been content with sales below the Xoom, which itself was considered a slow seller.

The A100 was to have been the first major seven-inch Android tablet after the Samsung Galaxy Tab and likely the first Android 3.0 tablet at the size. It would have been less expensive than even Samsung's Wi-Fi only model even with the presence of 3G.
