3M talks about e-book library Cloud Service

3M Library Systems announced it will launch an e-book lending service that will let iPad, Nook and Android tablet owners borrow e-books from local libraries. The service, called 3M Cloud Library, will include software, hardware and content accessible from special apps or in libraries via touch-screen terminals. Publisher partners include Random House and IPG, with more expected to arrive soon.

The launch date for the service remains unknown, but June will see a demonstration of a 3M Discovery Terminal and iPad app at the American Library Association's Annual Conference. 3M worked closely with librarians on creating this system.

The e-books will be available to lend from PCs, Macs, 3M eReaders, Nooks, Android tablets and the iPad.

More publishing partners will be announced soon, 3M promises.
