Sprint hints HTC Evo 4G to get Android 2.3 soon

Sprint on the Evo 4G's product page gave out strong clues that the phone was getting Android 2.3 soon. The carrier mentioned that it "ships with Android 2.3" in one area. At one point, it had mentioned the new OS in 2.3 and even singled it out as an improvement, though all but one reference has flipped back to 2.2.

Neither HTC nor Sprint has made any official mention of 2.3 reaching the Evo 4G. Leaks have nonetheless shown the OS coming in June, making the new mention ideal timing.

The Evo 4G will miss out on the NFC support in the new OS but will get most of the other benefits, including the official front camera support as well as faster performance, better power management and the numerous interface tweaks. Security will get its own lift if the phone is patched up to 2.3.4, since it will mend a login exploit that Google had fixed remotely but still exposes some apps in older Android versions.
