Blackberry 7 leaks ahead of new devices

RIM’s latest Blackberry OS, Blackberry 7, has leaked on the net for download ahead of its formal unveiling on any device. The software, which was originally going to be called Blackberry 6.1, was re-named as it will not run on devices running version 6. The files that are available on the net will only run on RIM’s next generation of smartphones when they launch in the coming months.

However, for power users who are capable of doing so, some of the files can be extracted and integrated into the Blackberry 6 OS. New apps such as Blackberry App World, which is currently at v2.1.3.7 can also be extracted and integrated.

While some had speculated that Blackberry 7 would run the new QNX OS that features on the Blackberry PlayBook tablet, it will not. Instead, it is thought that the unifying OS, when it arrives, will be labeled Blackberry 8. [via CrackBerry]
