WP7 Mango to include 4G models, Nokia phones

Microsoft during its live Windows Phone 7 Mango event on Tuesday provided extra details of its hardware plans beyond those revealed at the last minute. Along with adding Acer, Fujitsu, and ZTE as hardware partners for what's widely referred to as Windows Phone 7.1, it confirmed that some of its initial Windows Phone 7 partners, including HTC, LG, and Samsung, would be releasing their first 4G-capable phones along with the new software. Microsoft didn't explicitly mention a technology and left it open to include LTE, WiMAX, or another technology.

The more formal unveil for the update also confirmed that Nokia would use Mango on its first Windows Phone hardware. Devices were in the labs, Microsoft said.

Conspicuously absent, however, was any mention of Dell as a partner. A list of partners presented by Microsoft at the New York City gathering showed all six short-term partners, along with Nokia, but made no mention of the company originally behind the Venue Pro. The slider was available the same day as other WP7 devices but had a problematic launch from the start that included major connection glitches that persisted for weeks, leading to the phone only being available in earnest by the end of winter.

Dell has been reached for contact but hasn't had an opportunity to respond.
