Buffalo Japan shows 6Gbps, 256GB SSD for $890

Japan's Buffalo has just introduced a 256GB hard drive that's capable of read speeds as fast as 405MBps thanks to its 6Gbps SATA interface. Write speeds, as typical, are slightly lower, at 223MBps. The SSD-N256S/MC400 uses MLC (multi-level cell) flash memory that's denser and cheaper than single-level.

The drive arrives in Japan on Friday, priced at 72,200 Yen (about $890).

Less than two weeks ago, Corsair showed off its own ultra-fast SSDs, topping out at 550MBps in read and 502MBps in write speeds. A 240GB Force Series 3 costs $499.[via Akihabara]
