App simplifies searching to find content
Fanhattan has used the D9 conference to launch a new iPad app (free, App Store) that provides a consolidated view of movie and TV content from multiple media sources. Using the app, a viewer can browse or search for content by title, genre, or actor regardless of where it's located. Current media sources include Netflix, Hulu Plus, iTunes and ABC Player.
Since it doesn't have control over the sources, the app kicks users over to the appropriate site or service rather than loading it within the app.
At the core of the app is Fanhattan's content database. A search will call up the desired content and then display through which media source it is available. Additional information such as cast, reviews, genre and even links to Facebook is available. Clicking on a source will then redirect the viewer to the appropriate website or media player.
The iPad app is the first that Fanhatten has launched since its unveiling in December. The company plans to follow up with TV and web products in the future.
