Android 2.3 officially ready for all Motorola Droid X users

Moto Droid X gets Android 2.3 on official level

Motorola's somewhat delayed Android 2.3 upgrade for the Droid X has rolled out in earnest to Verizon users. Following a weekend "soak test" for a few users, anyone can manually push the update from a stock Droid X by checking for a system update. Regular users can expect the updates to push out automatically over time.

The switch to the new version gives the year-old phone the same, updated Blur interface as the Droid X2 with a subtler look and features such as app grouping and smart contacts that are linked to particular events. Android 2.3 itself brings much better copy-and-paste text, a multi-touch keyboard, better app and power management, and more graceful handling of Exchange calendars and mail.

Neither the Droid X nor the X2 get some of the hardware-dependent features of Android 2.3, such as video chat or NFC wireless payments.
